Welcome Letter

Welcome to the Mercury 7 Team!

We look forward to working with you and your student this year. Our goal is to provide the best education possible as we work together as a team of teachers, students, and parents.

The team handbook you received was designed to provide you with information about team policies, procedures, and curricula. It also includes several important forms that you need to sign and return. Please take the time to read through this booklet, and sign and return the signature pages to the school by Friday, August 22.

Students must check all supplies with their advisory teacher by Friday, August 22. Should you have difficulty obtaining any item, please send a written explanation with your student and the deadline will be adjusted.

The team teachers feel that parents are the most important influence on a student's education, and we need your involvement and support to make this year a success. Please get involved with your student’s homework, projects, and team activities. Parent volunteers and parent support will make the Mercury 7 Team successful.

All systems are A-OK, and we have a GO FOR LIFTOFF as our Mercury spacecraft prepares for what promises to be an exciting journey into learning. Enjoy the flight.

Mercury-7 Teachers
Don Simmons (Mathematics, Team Leader)
Mr. Simmons has been at Garcia since it opened in 1995. He has presented workshops at the Texas Middle School Convention, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Regional Conference, and the FBISD Middle Schools In Action Conference. He also has been involved in re-writing the district's math curriculum. Mr. Simmons  has received the FBISD Excellence in Education award, has been a Teacher of the Year nominee, and is a member of the national education honor society.
